Sport is now firmly back on the calendar and there are some great sporting events on the horizon for 2022. This is a good thing as a sport is important to society and is something the world needs. With this in mind let’s take a look at some of these events.

Australian Open
The first Grand Slam event of 2022 kicks off this January. Currently, Ashleigh Barty is ranked number 1 in the women’s game while Novak Djokovic is number one in the men’s tournament. The tournament is already attracting controversy as Djokovic has not revealed whether he has had a Covid-19 vaccine and as such may not compete.
The Australian Open promises some amazing games. Up and coming US Open champion Emma Raducanu is making her Australian Open debut. At 18 years old she is one for the future.
Winter Olympics – Beijing, China
According to Olympics.com, the official site of the Olympic Games, Beijing’s preparations are complete and the stadiums, slopes, circuits, and rinks are ready to go. The event takes place between the 2nd and 20th February with the Paralympic Winter Games running from the 4th to 13th March.
You might now know the best skier in the world, but given how fast and exciting some of the events are, the Winter Olympics is always great to watch.
The Grand National – Liverpool, England
One of the most famous horse races in the world takes place on the 9th of April. People who don’t usually bet on horse racing are tempted to put a small stake on a 500-1 outsider simply because it is fun and you just never know.
The race does have some controversy as some of the jumps are tough on the horses. As such, the event does have its critics.
That said, I dare anyone not to be shouting at the TV as the closing furlongs loom and your horse is in the lead!
PGA Championship – Tulsa, USA
The second of four major golfing championships in the world promises to be one to watch. In 2022 it will be held between the 19th and 22nd May. The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of America hosts the event and the first one took place in 2016.
The world’s number one in golf is Jon Rahm. The next four golfers, however, will give Rahm a run for his money.
NBA Championship
Starting on the 2nd of June and running to the 19th of June the NBA finals are already seeing controversy due to vaccine status. Medical reasons aside the question are can the Milwaukee Bucks retain their 2021 victory.
The competition is intense with many citing the Brooklyn Nets as the favorites to win. That said, there are at least four other teams that are very good all with their strengths and weaknesses. If you throw in the controversy and the controversy that will come from the games, you’re in for a treat of a championship.
