Scherzer went on the injured list yesterday with left side fatigue, retroactive to Sunday.
That’s a tough blow for the Mets, but on the opposite side of the coin, they may be getting a key arm back soon in Tylor Megill.
Megill has been out since May with a shoulder injury.
He had filled in some in the Mets rotation while Jacob deGrom was out.
According to Mets MLB.com reporter Anthony DiComo, Megill is progressing quite well and even threw a perfect inning last night.
He’s retired all nine batters he’s faced in his rehab assignment.

This is a good sign for the Mets.
While it hurts to lose Scherzer for any amount of time, there’s a chance that the Mets have a reinforcement on his way.
Manager Buck Showalter said that he would like to see a multi-inning performance or potentially back-to-back performances from Megill to gauge whether or not he’s okay to be activated off the injured list.
The 27-year-old right-hander is 4-2 on the season with a 5.01 ERA in nine starts.
While he obviously isn’t anywhere near on the same level as Scherzer, he’s a guy that can start and give you multiple innings, which is something the Mets are going to need now that Scherzer is back on the IL.
Megill went 4-6 a season ago and posted a 4.52 ERA in 18 starts.
Megill could be just what the Mets need to fill some innings while Scherzer is out.
He would give them some much-needed depth in their starting rotation, which has dealt with a ton of injuries this year.
