American Gabby Petito, who went missing after a road trip with her fiancé and was later found dead, has been strangled to death. The coroner announced this during a press conference this evening. It was already clear that Petito had been killed by violence, but the exact cause of death remained unclear until today.
The time of her death is estimated to be three to four weeks before her body was found, the coroner said.
Petito was reported missing after her partner Brian Laundrie returned alone from their months-long journey across the United States on September 1. Her body was found in the US state of Wyoming. The disappearance of the 22-year-old woman was big news in the United States and now also elsewhere in the world.
In the meantime, the search for Laundrie, who was previously called a ‘person of interest’ by the police in Petito’s disappearance, has been going on for more than three weeks. An arrest warrant has also been issued for bank card fraud against the man.
The search is centered on Florida’s Carlton Reserve, a gigantic wildlife sanctuary that his parents say he’d been drawn to.
