How Is The Net Worth Of Robert Herjavec $200 Million?

Have you ever wondered what the net worth of Robert Herjavec is? Well, the businessman, investor, and television personality Robert Herjavec has done it all.

Although he’s a successful businessman and founded multiple multimillion-dollar companies, Herjavec is most famous for his appearance on Shark Tank. Through Shark Tank, Herjavec has invested over 16.5 million dollars across 57 deals on the show.

He received the 2012 Ontario entrepreneur of the Year award and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his outstanding service to Canada. As of September 2022, Robert Herjavec has a net worth of $200 million.

In this post, we discuss what he did to achieve his massive wealth and what lessons you can take from his story.

Early Life

Herjavec was born in 1962 in Croatia. At the age of eight, his family left Croatia, and moved from Croatia to Nova Scotia, and eventually settled in Toronto.

Herjavec’s early life was definitely difficult as he spoke no English and was extremely poor. He lived in the basement of a friend’s house for a year-and-a-half after moving to Toronto. Nevertheless, his father never faltered.

Herjavec says his father was a tough man, and his toughness was a major influence in Herjavec’s life. His father always told him not to complain and instilled courage in Herjavec at a young age.

1984, Herjavec graduated from New College at the University of Toronto with a degree in English literature and political science. The degree didn’t get him far. After college, he had to take on a variety of minimum-wage jobs like waiting tables, delivering the newspaper, and debt collection.

In the mid-80s, Herjavec worked at several Production Studios as an assistant director. The work wasn’t consistent, so Herjavec applied for other jobs in between productions. One job he applied for was a position at LogiQuest selling IBM mainframes.

He had zero qualifications for this position but convinced the company to hire him by offering to work for free for 6 months.

However, this was an issue because he needed money. So, Herjavec continued waiting tables while working at Logiquest. After consistent hard work, he rose to become a general manager.

This was short-lived, and in 1990 he was fired from LogiQuest. At this point, he decided to start his own business, BRAK Systems.

BRAK Systems

BRAK Systems started in Herjavec’s basement. It was a technology company that specialized in Internet Security. In the ’90s, technology was a booming industry.

Luckily for Herjavec, his company had everything needed to take advantage of this trend. It quickly became the largest Internet Security firm in Canada.

In 2000, AT&T acquired the company for 30.2 million dollars. After this acquisition, he became vice president of sales at RAMP Network. Nokia ended up buying RAMP soon after for 225 million dollars.

By this point, Robert Herjavec already had a net worth of millions of dollars and wanted to take a break to spend more time with his family.

The company started with three employees and $400,000 in annual revenue. Now, the company makes two hundred million dollars in annual revenue.

Robert Herjavec now lives a lavish lifestyle with his wife and kids in a beautiful house in Toronto.

Key Takeaways

Be willing to work for free

When Herjavec was broke with no consistent pay, he took a job in which he had no qualifications. The only reason he got that job, is because he agreed to work for the company for free for six months.

Some of us won’t work for free for 6 days. Understand that the key to success is massive value. For Herjavec, his value was giving the company free labor.

Don’t only do what you’re qualified to do

Kamal Ravikant, the author of Live You Truth, once asked one of the best entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley how he got the qualifications to do what he did.

The entrepreneur sort of laughed, then said, “if I only stuck with what I was qualified for, I’d be pushing a broom somewhere.” Most people do not feel qualified to do anything.

Remember, the best way to learn how to swim is to throw yourself in the deep end. The best way to learn is by doing.

When one door closes another one opens

Herjavec started his company after getting let go from his previous position. He didn’t mourn, he didn’t pout, he just worked.

Understand that life never happens to you, it happens for you. If he never got fired he would have never started BRAK systems and turned into the multi-millionaire he is today.
