You may have heard all about the buzz of mystery boxes, but have you ever considered buying them?
But, what are mystery boxes exactly?
Mystery boxes consist of a number of random goods stacked inside of a box, which customers pay a fixed price for.
Why would anyone purchase a product when they don’t know what they’re getting for the payment?
The element of surprise is one reason, but the discount at which you receive it is an even stronger motivating factor.
The price differs from box to box depending on where you buy it from, who you buy it from and what’s it’s size, but mostly it comes at a very cheap rate.
Obviously there are pros and cons both to buying mystery boxes and we’ll walk through both.
Pros.
1. A great number and variety of items at a very small price.
As mentioned above, you get a lot of random items inside a mystery box. Now what they’re worth depends upon the items but numerically speaking you get a lot of them under a fixed price. So about a 100 items for say $20 doesn’t sound like a bad deal.
2. Get a great profit margin if items are great inside the box.
Now, from those numerous items, you could get lucky and get one item which could pay your money off and gain you profit as well. Or you could get many items which are worth something or the other and with them combined you can pay off your money and gain you profit easily.
3. You can choose special category mystery boxes.
There aren’t just anonymous mystery boxes available, they can also come with a specialised category. For e.g. a clothes mystery box inside of which you’ll only get clothes.
These specialised boxes contain only the specialised items inside of them. You can buy any kind of specialised mystery box based on what you’re interested in.
4. Mostly shelf pulls/warehouse damage merchandise.
Most of the times, stores sell their old stuff to make room for new ones. This stuff is mostly not very old but was only sold because the store had to make space.
These items can very well land in your mystery boxes, giving you a chance to score several new items by paying only for the box. If there’s any damaged stuff inside, you can mostly repair it and use it or resell it.
5. Mostly all retail-ready items.
If you don’t intend to keep the stuff you got from the mystery box, you could always resell it.
The most items you get are in a good condition and can be sold immediately without any changes. There’s also profit for you if you do resell them.
Cons.
1. You can find absolutely nothing of value inside.
Though you score about a 100 or more different items inside a mystery box, none could be of any value.
Hence, you won’t gain any value for your money. There lies this great risk.
2. No warranty or guarantee.
There won’t be a warranty or guarantee for any mystery box you’ll buy.
These boxes contain random items which no one vouches for.
3. Customer service isn’t great.
Many consumers have complained about the consumer services of a mystery box not being great.
What else can you expect when you’re literally buying a box of random things inside of a box with no warranty or guarantee?
4. You will rarely receive your money back with profit.
Most of the time getting just the value of your money from the mystery box will is a hard task, let alone we talk about profit.
Because buying a mystery box doesn’t guarantee you a lucky draw and it certainly won’t guarantee you that anything valuable had to be inside.
5. It’s mostly far from what you expect just by looking at the box.
“Do not judge a book by it’s cover.”
I’d apply that to our mystery boxes as well because a box may not be what it appears to be. The weight of the box won’t matter if there’s just random trash inside of it.
But since you can’t also see what’s inside it, you’ll have to go with your gut, just try for it to not be wrong. It’s a risk you’ll have to take if you want to buy a mystery box.
Conclusion.
When you try to buy one mystery box, you will want to buy more just because of the rush of it. But in the end it depends on personal experience.
It’s very affordable, much exciting, as well as risky to buy a mystery box!
Every box you buy can contain something which will get your money right back along with profits or could contain nothing of any value as well.
So it solely depends on you and your ability to take a risk if you should buy a mystery box or no
