Stephanie DeJesus Found Mud in Car: Police

Body of Stephanie DeJesus38 years old, discovered by officers with Paterson Police DepartmentResponding to reports of a suspicious vehicle, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

DeJesus’ injuries were so severe that officers initially thought she had been shot to death. A medical examiner later determined impact trauma to be the cause of both DeJesus’ injuries and her death.

Now, three people have been arrested and charged with the murder of DeJesus, following an investigation by the Paterson Police Department. Prosecutors noted in a press release that members of the Totowa Police Department and the United States Secret Service also assisted in investigative efforts.

Three days later, Joelle Martucci24, surrendered to the Paterson Police Department.

Investigators were able to determine that DeJesus was driving from a pharmacy to a home in Totowa the night before police discovered her body, according to the report. NJ.comcite the affidavit of probable cause in the case.

That house was later identified as a residence that Martucci shared with her fiancé and their son.

DeJesus’ car is seen in the video leaving shortly after Martucci got home, according to NJ.com. And a man was seen running outside and locking his car before running off to be picked up by Martucci.

NJ.com reports that investigators have identified the man in that video as Justin FisherMartucci’s 29-year-old fiance.

Martucci was shown to be an important witness in the case, based on the information contained in the probable cause affidavit. She informed police that although she had nothing to do with DeJesus’ death, she noticed something unusual when she got home the night that DeJesus was seen entering the apartment.

In an interview with police, Martucci said she went home that night to find Fisher and his father. Ali Gibson51 years old, carrying something to DeJesus’ car, NJ.com reported.

“Martucci also indicated that when she first entered the home, she noticed the large box/bag in the living room area,” the affidavit said, according to NJ.com.

“Martucci then explains observing that part of the floor/floor in the living room area is ripped off.”

No bags or boxes were found in the car, but Martucci’s cooperation was enough to secure Fisher and Gibson’s arrest warrants just days later.

Both men surrender to the police without incident, according to prosecutors. All three are currently facing first-degree murder and first-degree murder charges.

In New Jersey, first-degree murder carries a minimum sentence of 30 years and a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

All three defendants are currently being held at the Passaic County Jail. Prosecutors asked all three to remain behind bars to be transferred to pre-trial detention.

Follow her obituaryDeJesus, who works as a cardiovascular technician, is survived by his 16-year-old son, parents, two sisters, and a brother.

There is still no word on the motive of the case or how DeJesus learned of the three people arrested for her murder.

No attorneys are listed for the defendants. Prosecutors declined to comment on the case and Paterson Police did not respond to a request for comment.
